Day 10 - Love your Neighbor

Sandy Creek Campground
River Mile - 1105.5
Days Milage - 35.1 miles
Total miles -  236.4 miles

Got back on the water after at 9:00 am, with the main storm passed, with just light rain and a breeze to keep the mosquitos away. We had a big day ahead of us, 30 miles to Libby Township camp. The first 10 miles was very pleasant. I love this time of day, drinking my coffee and listening to music.

After 33 miles yesterday, today I was feeling a bit sluggish. To offset this, I ate a snack every hour or so, which definitely helps.

Bill and I connected at mile 1125 and we had a floatila lunch. I had, PB and Honey on Tortilla, and a beef stick.

All afternoon I was dragging, so listening to an audiobook helped. I’m listening to There, there by Tommy Orange. It helped to pass 2 hours and about 8 miles.

When I approached the Libby Township site, after 30 miles, I saw Jon in his boat, across the river from the site. That’s not a good sign. He had been there for 45 minutes trying to find a place to land. There was nothing. So we decided to paddle on to a campground up the Sandy River, another 6 miles from Libby. We were all tired but the thought of a campground sounded pretty good. The three of up paddled the additional miles together which helped. Misery loves company!

From the map, we thought we might have to portage to get to the campground. Imagine our joy when at the top of the boat ramp, was a beautiful campground and....an open site right at the top of the ramp! As we are setting up our tents, our next door neighbor (his name is Damon) brings us over 3 cold sodas, Yay!!! We have not had a cold drink since Saturday.

And that’s not all. The also had electrical AND laundry and showers! So much better than that buggy site with no place to land.

It was my turn to cook dinner. I made beef stroganoff. It was pretty good. Jon is a way better back country menu planner. Must be the thousands of days of practice.

After dinner clean up and laundry we sat down to write, Jon in his journal and Bill and I our Blogs. If you are interested in Bills Blog the url is www.eightsummits.com
Our neighbor Damon came over with plates of bbq chicken and cold Grain Belt beer, YES!

Time to wrap for tonight, tomorrow we paddle to the town of Palisades, MN. There is a cafe there we hope to check out. There is also a liquor store and we hope to buy some beet and ice for tomorrow nights dinner.

Yea, your day turned pretty darn good. Happy for that. Been sitting awaiting for your day’s blog, knowing your day was delayed. I’m considering sharing your blogs and pics with anyone here at SV who wants to travel with you. Bless you and your gang as you trek along the mighty zmississippi.

PB & Honey...one of my favorite snacks....better than PB&J.

Continued good luck on the journey.
