First Paddle Post Surgery

On January 13, I had knee replacement surgery to repair 35 years of degenerative joint disease along with the torn Meniscus from my Mississippi river trip last fall. I had set a goal for myself pre-surgery that I would be back in my kayak paddling by March 1st. Over the past six weeks of recovery, there were many times when I thought this day would never come. I was using a walker as recently as two weeks ago, and just transitioned to a cane last week.

As March 1 drew closer, I started to feel a bit more optimistic. Last week, I got my boat down from the rack and was able to sit in it, but it wasn't easy. Still I was hopeful that today would be the day. Well, today it happened! Just like I had hoped. I was able to launch, paddle for a couple miles and most importantly, get out of my boat at the end!

I'm so grateful for all the TLC and emotional support my wife Christina showered me with. Even though I'm sure she thought my goal was crazy, she never tried to talk me out of it. Thank you my Love!
